About PPSIA

What is Plum Point Shores Improvement Association?

PPSIA is an association of Plum Point residents who work together to maintain our private beach and provide facilities for its use and enjoyment. Note that the beach in Rhode Island from 10 feet above the seaweed line to the water is public land open to all. The area above the public beach is private land and PPSIA owns the two lots at 64 Riptide Dr. and that area is open to members of the Association and their guests only. There is a deeded right-of-way for residents of Plum Point permitting access to the shore along the north edge of the PPSIA property. You may walk from the street to the shore in this strip of land, but the rest of the property and the various facilities are for PPSIA members only. Specifically, the chairs and tables are for members use only.

What do I have to do to join?

Every Plum Point resident who owns or rents a house in the neighborhood is encouraged to join the Association. Dues are now $175 a year for residents which includes homeowners and renters. Dues are $200 for an associate memership. Upon joining, a card is issued allowing the member to open the electronic gate at the parking lot entrance.

What’s the money for?

With money from dues, the Association pays insurance and real estate taxes on the parking lot and pavilion property and has done so since May 23, 1955. In return, members are permitted to park their cars in the lot, launch their boats, and rent the pavilion for parties. The Association also has fundraisers and parties throughout the summer to raise money for improvements to the property. For example, officers organize the concession on the 4th of July. We purchase sand to replace what the winter storms take away, and each year we continue to maintain and improve the pavilion and the property.

How can I use the pavilion for a private event?

You may ask to reserve the pavilion for private events using our calendar request form. The pavilion rental fee is $200 plus a $100 refundable deposit. If you would like to use the commercial grill, with propane included, there is an additional $50 fee. The pavilion rental includes the use of a maximum of seven (7) parking spaces.  If you have more guests than seven cars, please have your additional guests park at your home and ferry them to the pavilion. Check the calendar to see if the date you want is available. The pavilion has electricity with lights, a kitchen with stoves and refrigerators, but it does not have running water.

There is a spring that runs constantly just outside the entrance to the property.

Do I have to rent the pavilion to use it?

All members are free to use the pavilion for non-exclusive use whenever it is not rented for a private event. Please check our calendar to see if the pavilion is available and use the request form to ask to reserve it for a private function.

What other facilities are there?

We rent porta-pottis each year during the summer months. We make sure that there is sand on the beach. Please help us keep it clean. We have a boat launch suitable for small boats.

We have a boat rack for members. For an annual fee of $20, you may store a kayak or light boat on our rack from May 1 until Oct. 30. All boats kept on the rack or beach must have a sticker with owner information and be registered with PPSIA. Stickers are available from our Treasurer, Ed Passarelli, contact him via email or call him at (401) 225-4527 to pbtain a sticker..

All boats must be removed from the rack by October 31. Any boat not removed from the rack by October 31 will be removed by PPSIA. You may store your kayak behind our building in the winter when we have no porta-potti there. Please only kayaks and similar light weight boats on the top of the rack. Boats may not be placed on the rack before the end of March.

We have swings for children. We have horseshoe pits for adults. We have beach loungers and upright beach chairs. We have picnic tables that may be used on the grass and under the pavilion. Please, do not put picnic tables on the beach.

We have have a raft in our swimming area again this year.

We have a dart board under the pavilion. Bring your own darts.
